How to get big on YouTube
A guy that I’m subscribed to on YouTube posted a very interesting video yesterday. His name is Ray and he lives in New York. He has been working on a what he calls his “super secret” project for some time now and apparently YouTube has showed interest in the project, which is great for Ray of course. However, in addition to his meeting with YouTube he had to go speak with some “corporate entities”, as he called them, about that how people become big on YouTube. I really liked that Ray said he did not know how you get popular there. And that’s true for all social media sites. Some stuff could be very popular for no apparent reason and also what is popular today could be forgotten tomorrow.
(The video I’m talking about is part of Ray’s daily vlog, I’ll embed it below. Here are links to Ray’s daily vlog and his Equals 3 channel. Go subscribe he is a great guy).
I have to say I get really annoyed and worried when companies show interest in social media. I think they would wreck it all.
Let’s say for example a big company gives some YouTuber a lot of money to do what he or she normally does on his/her channel. How long do you think the company would stay away and not meddle? I don’t think it will be very long.
If you get money for a channel on YouTube you would have to have a program and post videos regularly, not when it is convenient for you. Also you would probably have to stop doing some of the videos because they do not get so many views or comments as others do. You would be bound by rules and contracts and God knows what else. I seriously doubt that if the YouTubers give the control over to some companies they would be themselves for long. I will not be their life they would talk about but rather some product a company would like to sell you. I hope it does not come to that.
There was a comment I liked on Ray’s video:
RikuZegram said: “Corporate companies have no business on youtube anyways. All they? give us is commercials anyways lol”
Yep, there will be commercials! HATE COMMERCIALS! Don’t care how important they are, just hate them!
I’m sick and tired of companies trying to figure out what people like and when they cannot trying to sell them products they don’t want anyway.
I know that YouTube needs funding to stay what it is and keep improving its features, applications ect., but I hope they’ll do it the other way

But surely if corporations took over YouTube channels and forced their crap into the programming, people would just stop watching?
Yes, they would probably stop watching but that is not the point. The important thing is to keep YouTube what it is not to ruin it. If people stop watching YouTube will disappear and what good will that bring?
I don’t think people will stop watching YouTube. I think they will stop watching sell-out channels and move on to new, independent stuff.
If it happens like that it would be great. I’m really afraid that YouTube might be flooded with corporate channels selling stuff and that people who upload videos on the site would be obliged to put commercials at the start of their videos.
